A cat lover wants an unfailing conductor or handbook to get through his cat’s guidance. It is not enough to just browse over websites for tips and other subtle know-hows. What he needs are trusty cat schooling books ! Here are some of the best-selling and genuinely amazing cat exercise books that can have one’s pet cat do more than meowing and scratching:

1. "Guide to Well-Behaved Cat: A Sound Approach to Cat Training"

The book says it all. It aims to educate the cat to work. Written by Phil Maggiti, this book is packed with ornate information and divided into four parts. The first phase tackles the cat’s evolution, while the following is all about its domestication. Design and gathering of a mundane cat is discussed in stage three, while division four meeting about soul-pet relationship topics such as, why does a fund disobey the possessor when it is called?

2. "Understanding or Training Your Cat or Kitten"

This acclaimed book is from H. Ellen Whiteley, a veterinarian who understands cats more than a middling role does. This book contains 292 pages of important information that can sincerely make you understand, string and appreciate one’s pet cat.

3. "Handbook of Behavior Problems of the Dog and Cat"

This book is a collaboration of Gary M. Landsberg, W. Hunthausen and L. Ackerman. Publishing by Elvesier Health Sciences, this is one of the most sound books in cat education. Okay, so it is dual target - it is about cats and dogs, but it doesn’t stuff. It is as informative as any other cat education book out there.

From discussing kitten development to suggesting therapy for manners and diet-related troubles, from approaching elegant agression to discovery out what the "European consider to actions counseling" is, this book is actually useful.

4. "Cat Training in 10 Minutes"

The "Cat Training in 10 Minutes" is 142 pages of eccentric information on how to communicate effectively with cats. Writing by Miriam Fields-Banineau, a licensed cat lover, this director is calm to read and vastly helpful. Every cat landlord could toilet-line his pool in just a few sense sessions! It would not be long before the cat also follows the owner’s commands! The photographs in the book are very attractive as well.

Nobody says cat exercise is ready to be tranquil. That’s why cat training books are free online so one can get the essence and be the best cat owner in civic.

Really, it isn’t all that complicated if you break it down to two simple steps

Training cats to wear a collar may be a bit challenging for pet owners especially if your cat has never been used to wearing one.

                                                             How To Train A Cat
Cat Training should not be a secret known only to cat behaviorists. In fact, cat training can be learned and practiced at home, given enough motivation for both you and the cat.

                                                             Training Your Hyperactive Cat
You walk in your home after being gone for a short time, or all day from work and your cat has taken over the house.

In fact, cats will do some good behaviors in their own good time.

Learn how to effectively train your cat with these great cat training tips.

When it comes to cat training tips, there is one very important thing to keep in mind, you cannot train them the same way you would train a dog. Dogs have a more "aim to please" mentality and are very likely to do what you ask of them; cats on the other hand, don’t give in quite so easily. They are stubborn animals and will make you work for their love and affection, as well as for their obedience.

Cats are predatory animals. They like to hide and attack things, not knowing that they are making a mess of your house. They may steal your socks, jewelry, pens, anything that seems interesting at the time. The easiest way to avoid this is to be sure to keep enough kitty toys in the house and make sure they are kept out where your cat can easily find them. This will help keep them from becoming bored and focusing their attention on your personal belongings.

A great tip for training your cat is to remember that punishing them won’t have much effect. Unlike dogs that will usually change their behavior after being punished, cats will most likely ignore the punishment and continue with the bad behavior, again because they can be very stubborn. The best cat training tip is to use positive reinforcement. You are much more likely to see results when rewarding your cat for good behavior. When they go to play with their cat toy rather than your watch sitting on the coffee table, reward them. You can reward them with a kitty treat, praise them with words, or perhaps even better, play with them. If they see you engaging with them, they will know that behavior is not only acceptable, but also encouraged. Playing with them also allows for a good bonding time with your cat, allowing them to become more comfortable with you.

Another great cat training tip is to keep them on a strict schedule. Cats are creatures of habit, they enjoy being on a schedule. Try to feed, groom, and play with them at the same times every day. If they never know what to expect from day to day, they can become anxious and stressed out, which will ultimately cause behavior problems.

Although these are not the only cat training tips out there, they are two of the most important and just by following these couple ideas, you can drastically improve your cat’s behavior and help prevent future bad habits from occurring.

Tips for successfully training your cat.

Training your cat is very important and for several different reasons. First, a cat that hasn’t been trained, doesn’t know what behaviors are acceptable and what are not, therefore, they are more likely to misbehave because they don’t know they are misbehaving. Having a trained, well behaved cat allows the cat and the owner to bond and have a loving relationship rather than having a misbehaving cat that causes its owner a lot of stress and frustration.

It is very important, as a cat owner, to understand that cats cannot be trained the same way as dogs. They don’t behave the same way and they don’t have the same thinking process as dogs. If you are trying to use the same training techniques on your cat that are designed for dogs, you probably aren’t going to see results. Forcing training techniques on a cat will not work. They are stubborn by nature and if it’s not something that is appealing to them, they are going to ignore you.

The first step to training your cat should be to learn and understand your cat’s personality. There are many aspects to your cat’s personality and they should all be taken into account when choosing the right training tactics. Find out what your cat’s likes and dislikes are and use that information to help you. There are a few simple tips to keep in mind when training your cat:

Keep your training sessions short. If you drag out sessions for a long time, your cat will most likely become bored and will stop listening.

Only start training session when your cat is already awake. Don’t wake your cat up for a session because he or she will probably just ignore you.

Always be sure to reward your cat for obeying you, using treats, food, or showing them affection.

You should also only train your cat for one thing at a time. Whether you are teaching them to do tricks or use the human toilet rather than a litter box, you shouldn’t try to teach them everything all at once. When you’re training your cat, let them master one thing before moving on to another. This will avoid both you and them becoming overwhelmed.

There are many benefits to having a well-trained, well-behaved cat. You will have less stress because you won’t have to worry about how your house is going to look when you get home. You can enjoy a loving relationship with your cat instead of spending most of the time mad at him for misbehaving. Taking the time to train your cat will definitely pay off in the long run and you and your cat will both be happier.

You need to commit cat training if you want to have a well-behaved cat. It may be difficult at the first time but actually cats are easy-trained pet.

The first thing was to get a Cat Training Kit that has been around forever and that has a proven track record. I chose Kitty Whiz because my parents used it for our cat when I was growing up and my son recently used it for his cat with great success.

My cat, Oscar, isn’t the brightest of cats, so I didn’t want to fool around with one of those Johnny-come-lately imitations. Plus, they are all so over-priced! One is about $90.

Anyway, my experience in training Oscar paralleled instructions in the kit. Oscar always needed more love with everything because he’s a little slow. I figure that if Oscar can get it, any normal cat can.

The Kitty Whiz package included a bag of herbs, a plastic form, a clever cartoon style instruction booklet and a diploma for when Oscar graduated. The diploma was a nice touch and it gave me a confidence boost.

There were standard warnings. And Oscar was to have been litter trained already. Warnings could be summed up as good sense. My personal advice here is to schedule a little me-time to do this thing right. You can’t be jet-setting around the world or working 168 hours a week on a corporate merger.

The process was to take about 2 weeks. I lost track of time, but it was about that for Oscar to get into the groove.

There was a recommendation to use a padded toilet seat cover for off-balance cats and Oscar qualified because he is pretty clumsy. The poor thing stumbles over his own shadow.

Kitty Whiz divided their training into stages. Everything I personally did was covered in the instructions. I do have additional recommendations, which you will read.

STAGE 1

I took Oscar into the spare bathroom where nobody would bother him. Remember to start this training in the evening because your cat will need to stay in the restroom overnight so they will do their first poops and pees.

While Oscar was meowing around, I put the form together. It was simple so don’t be alarmed.

I chose to train Oscar with the toilet seat down because I thought it was safer and it is usually down anyway. The padded lid stayed up. I figured that the more routine things were, the better.

I then took the old litter box out to the shed so Oscar couldn’t find it and he would be focused on his new toilet facility. Good riddance to that smelly thing. Now my husband will hope for Oscar’s success so he can get rid of the litter box in his tool shed.

Per instructions, I filled the bowl part of the form with regular litter so it looked similar to Oscar’s regular litter box. This made for a smoother transition. A slow smooth transition is the key in my opinion.

Since Oscar had been known to poop and pee in everything resembling nature, I covered my houseplant soil with aluminum foil where possible and rocks where possible.

In the restroom where Oscar was training, I put his bowls with his favorite food and fresh water. Any place with food is a good place to Oscar.

I opened the herb package and took a whiff. It did nothing for me and I felt no sudden urge to use Kitty Whiz myself, but Oscar responded. He followed the package as I led him up onto the toilet seat.

I sprinkled a little on the litter and Oscar sniffed around. This was to help Oscar take note of where his new kitty litter box was now located.

It was a little heartbreaking, but I closed Oscar in his restroom for the night. He needed to poop in peace, and he doesn’t like for anyone to interrupt his work. Instructions mentioned that cats are that way.

In the morning I checked on Oscar and he was perfectly content and maybe a little too proud. The litter was saturated with pee and there was a healthy mound of poop.

There are instructions for cat owners who may not be as successful at this stage as I was with Oscar. But, neither my parents nor my children had any problems.

I read over the steps to take if one is unsuccessful. They boil down to doing things over, keeping things real clean and encouraging one’s cat with love and finesse. Oscar may not have been blessed with smarts, but he was blessed with a loving family. I’m sure your cat also has a loving home environment.

STAGE 2

I was glad to move on to the next stage because Oscar was leaving me with mounds of love each day. I was anxious to flush instead of clean up litter. I think Oscar was laughing at me during this stage. He always had a slightly twisted sense of humor.

After four days, Oscar was accustomed to using his new litter box on top of the toilet. So, I saw the principle involved here. I gradually removed parts of the plastic form until nothing was left. After about two weeks, Oscar was going into the restroom all by himself and using the toilet like a regular human.

This is my own personal touch to the toilet system. I secured the toilet seat lid so it was always in the up position. Otherwise, someone might leave it down. I also had the door fixed so it was always open enough for Oscar to walk through. I did these two things to make sure Oscar was never prevented from doing his work.

Nowadays, it is quite humorous to see Oscar get up from his favorite TV program and wander off to use the restroom. My only responsibility lately is to flush the toilet. Maybe Kitty Whiz will someday invent a way to train Oscar to flush the toilet.

I think Oscar was proud to officially join the human race as a toilet user. He always knew he was human, but it was good to have official recognition in the form of a degree. We gave him a graduation party and presented him with his Kitty Whiz Degree. He wore a blue winner ribbon and we framed his degree and photo together and hung them in his office, right above the toilet.

Here is my personal testimony about Kitty Whiz as opposed to other cat trainers:

I remember Kitty Whiz from the 1970s. It was around a long time before other cat toilet training systems. It is proven and trusted in my family. And I know other families that used it with success and I recommend it to first-timers. I’ve seen many imitations on the market lately and they are usually way over priced. I saw one for about $90 dollars. All I can say is, Get real!

I trained Oscar for less than $20 and got quick delivery from an online pet store named Bluejayz Pet Supplies.

Learn how to train a cat with these great cat training tips.

Being the owner of a cat can be a very rewarding experience and many cat owners have great, loving relationships with their cats. Others don’t have it so easy. Cats are independent and stubborn creatures and often aren’t willing to comply with the rules of the house, and this can cause many problems between the cat and his owner. Training a cat doesn’t have to be a difficult task and if successful, will give you the loving relationship you wish to have with your cat.

To train your cat successfully, there are several things to keep in mind to get optimal results. First, the earlier you can start training your cat the better. Kittens will pick up on the learned behaviors faster than adult cats, although training an adult cat is not impossible. Whether you’re getting a kitten or an adult cat, the sooner you start training your cat, the better. Once you bring them home, start teaching them what behaviors are acceptable and what behaviors aren’t. When training a cat, always remember to use positive reinforcements for good behaviors, rather than punishing them for being naughty.

Whether you are training a cat to use the litter box, to not scratch the furniture, or to do tricks such as playing fetch, you must be consistent with the training techniques you choose. Whatever method you choose for training your cat, be sure to stick to it. If you are constantly changing your techniques or aren’t consistent with the way you react or reward your cat for a specific behavior, your cat won’t know what to expect from you. This will only confuse your cat and they probably won’t behave the way you want them to.

While training your cat, it’s important to remember that if your cat becomes bored, they are more likely to get into something they aren’t supposed to be in. You should make sure you keep plenty of kitty toys around the house that they can easily access when they want to play. This will help to avoid them playing with the things around the house that you don’t want them playing with, such as your pictures or plants.

Training a cat can be a difficult, but very rewarding experience. It will allow the cat and owner to bond and build a better, more loving relationship. When you don’t have the stress and frustration of a misbehaving cat, you can focus more on loving them and giving them the affection they want, and in return they will also show you the affection you want from them.

Puppy potty training on command is an quick way to get the job done without too much effort . If you are consistent, most puppies will readily respond to this technique.

Puppy potty training on command is a simple approach using a voice cue to inspire elimination. Most puppies can be taught to relieve themselves on command. This is much simpler than you may think.

Advantages to on Command Training

On command dog potty training will avoid spending a lot of time waiting for your doggy to go potty. Additionally, this technique can be incredibly useful if the weather is nasty. Other advantages are when you are traveling with your pet or in time constrained situations.

The words or phrases you use will eventually act to initiate, prompt desired behavior. Take your dog potty every hour and say, Outside then take him to his potty spot. Soon he will learn what outside means.

Reward and Praise When House Training Your Dog

Once outdoors, use any phrase that make sense - Hurry up, Get busy, Do your business, or some other socially acceptable, euphemistic eliminator command. Before long, when you say "hurry up" she will squat. Quietly praise your canine friend as she goes and say something like Great Job.

Each time your dog finishes, really use lots of praise - Good puppie! It may be a good idea to offer a food reinforcement or two - Input for Output - Praise and Reward. Puppy potty training is one of those times to indulge your buddy; give him a treat he really loves.

Your puppy will more likely eliminate if you stand still and let him circle around you on a leash. If your buddy does not eliminate within 5 minutes, no biggie! Simply take him inside and crate him for a half-hour or so. Then try again. Repeat the process over and over until he does eliminate. Eventually, your pup will do the right thing and you will be able to reward him.

If your dog inappropriately urinates inside in your presence, say Outside" and take him to "his spot.

Dogs soon learn that after they eliminate, they are taken indoors and may hold it until they come inside which is not the behavior you are aiming for. Alternatively, when your puppy has done his business, take him for a walk or play fetch with the ball as a reward! Most dogs, especially puppies, like being outdoors. Your buddy will look forward to this and it will encourage him to rush through the elimination process.
`
Housebreaking a Dog Made Easy

1. When not supervised, keep your pup confined.
2. Take your pup out on a leash every hour to the toilet area, instruct to eliminate using the chosen word, and allow 5 minutes to do so.
3. Enthusiastically praise your puppy for doing the right thing and reward with treats and play or walk.

By instructing your pup to eliminate beforehand and by rewarding him for eliminating afterward, you will teach your best friend puppy potty training on command. The key to house training is consistency.

How to effectively house train your dog with crate training.

Many people believe that crate training your large dog is cruel in nature, but on the contrary, this method of training is not only effective, but teaches a dog a fundamental lesson, keep your living area clean. Uneducated dog owners do not understand what crate training is all about. Crate training a dog is a wonderful way to give your furry friend a safe place to go when he is tired, when you cannot be with him, and will save your carpet and your house overall.

It’s important to remember that crate training a large dog of any age is effective and completely humane.

What Crate Training Entails

Crate training a dog refers to placing your dog in a large crate or kennel when you are not around them to ensure that they go potty in the correct place. A crate can either be a wire type cage that locks or it can be the plastic variety. If you visit your local pet store you will see that there are varying sizes of crates, which are also called kennels. When you are crate training a larger dog you will want to purchase a crate that will be large enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in, even when they are full grown.

If you are crate training a puppy you may have to buy a large crate now, but it makes more sense to buy a crate that will serve the purpose for the long haul. The prices of crates really vary depending on the quality and the material used in creating the crate.

Smaller crates are obviously less costly but it is important that you buy a crate large enough for your dog after its fully grown. A crate will lock securely so that when you are away from home your dog will have a safehaven to run back to. You can create your own crate if you are inclined to do so, but you will want to be sure that there are no sharp edges and that your dog cannot get his or her head wedged in any gaps or holes.

A crate really should be a second home to your pet. You can make it comfortable with a blanket or padding and a water bottle which should always be hung on the outside of the crate. This will give your dog everything they need when you are away, so you simply have the option to place them in their crate and walk away.

Crate Training a Dog Works Wonders

Crate training a dog works because dogs do not like to make a mess within their living space. The crate will be comfortable and the dog will soon associate it with sleep and rest. This natural tendency to keep the living space clean is why crate training works with almost every dog. This technique makes potty training easier since you will only have to open the crate and take the dog directly outside in order for him/her to go potty. Not only is crate training great for housebreaking, but it can create opportunities to create several other great habits for your dog later on as they become older.

Crate training a dog is a very rewarding experience for both the pet owner and the dog. Most large dog breeds love their crates, so there is no reason to worry that crate training a dog will have negative side effects. With a crate that is big enough and water provided, your dog will find its crate a great place to be.

A cat’s habits, behavior and personality are all learned as a kitten. Cats have to be excellent teachers and kittens great students in order to impart so much knowledge in the short time of kitten-hood. The down side is that once they learn their lessons, it’s almost impossible to change their habits or behavior. Your best option is to emphasize the learning aspect and enroll them in a good training program.

That’s right. Everything your cat knows, good or bad, she learned in the first weeks of her life. Further, even though she is trainable as she leaves kitten-hood and grows into an adult, it becomes more difficult for her to change the way she does things as she grows older. Is that the reason older cats seem to be crotchety ole’ grouches?

And why they won’t move off of your favorite chair without a lot of grumbling? Maybe. But, it’s well documented that the first weeks of a kitten’s life is where they develop all the critical elements of their physiology and personality.

Physical Development and Growth:

The first weeks of a kitten’s life is the most dramatic, growth-wise. At birth a kitten will weigh around 100 grams (3.5 oz). Normal weight gain is about 7-10 grams a day and their weight should double in 14 days. A healthy kitten is plump, firm and vigorous and they will nurse every 1-2 hours. They prefer one teat to nurse and find it by smell. When they’re well fed their stomachs are round and they sleep quietly. If they are crying and moving around, they are not getting enough to eat and may be taking in air when they nurse. Before, during, and after nursing, the queen will lick the stomach and perineal area (the area just above the tail) to stimulate urination and defecation. She’ll do this for the first 2-3 weeks of her kitten’s life.

At 3-4 weeks the kittens will begin to imitate their mom’s eating and drinking habits. Keep a shallow dish for water available for them and you can also allow them to taste a kitten mush mixture of high quality kitten food, kitten milk replacement and hot water blended to the texture of infant cereal. Start off with 3-4 meals a day of this mixture. At first the kittens will explore it, walk in it, and eat some. After that mom may finish the meal herself. Each week decrease the amount of milk replacement, water and time of blending. Weaning will be complete by 7-8 weeks when the kittens should be eating dry food and drinking water on their own.

This growth schedule matches what wild kittens will experience. Mom will nurse them for a while after birth. Then, she will hunt her territory for prey, bring it home and teach her kittens how to eat it. Later she will catch the prey and bring it home alive so that she can teach them how to kill. Kittens need to learn fast because, being easy prey themselves, they are susceptible to predators . They also need to learn fast because mom’s territory is not going to be sustainable for providing food indefinitely. As they grow they’ll eat greater amounts and more often. So, they need to grow up, get out on their own, find their own territory and fend for themselves.

Personality and Socialization:

Though cats are solitary creatures, they are not completely loners. Young kittens do not have a developed sense for personal space or territoriality. They’ll snuggle in a ball with themselves or with mom in order to maintain normal body temperature. Conversely, they’ll spread out a little if they’re too hot. As they grow and their bodies develop the ability to maintain itself, they’ll begin to find their own private spaces for resting or sleeping, but still play with each other. In the wild mom will stop providing food for them eventually. She’ll resume protecting her territory, causing her brood to leave or chasing the now adult kittens off. Now they’ll need to establish their own territories and begin the cycle all over again. Domestic kittens may seek their own private space, but since food is readily available, they’ll display less protective territoriality instincts with each other. They’ll include your house as part of their territory, but exclude neighbor cats or other animals from the property.

While they’re still kittens, they’ll stalk and play to develop their balance and coordination. This is the training ground for learning predation and the basic survival techniques that has perpetuated the presence of cats for thousands of years. As cute as the play seems, this play is critical to the survival of the species.

Kittens will learn many things while they are young. For example:

The food they learn to eat as a kitten, either in the wild or as domestic progeny, will be the food they prefer as an adult. If you feed a variety of foods (quality kitten food, but from different sources such as chicken, beef, seafood, lamb, etc.) they’ll tend to be less picky as an adult. Wild kittens fed only mice will hunt mice as their main source of food as an adult.

They will learn how to set boundaries in order to identify territory and private space. Kittens raised in closed places such as a cage will not be able to do this as an adult and will appear fearful; unable to establish or identify where the lines of boundary are. Either theirs or anyone else’s. Their personal space will be very small, again making her very fearful, easily threatened and she’ll hide or go into defensive postures easily.

As already mentioned, play activities of stalking, wrestling, biting and chasing are all directly related to the development of predation techniques. In the wild, the success of an individual cat depends upon how well she learned these tactics, especially the aggressiveness in the application of these methods, when she was a kitten. The Queen plays an important role when she brings home live prey to teach the kittens how to kill and eat prey. The kittens may at first play with the prey, but soon they’ll learn what they’re supposed to do and associate the prey with food for sustenance. Domestic kittens, other than barn cats or other kittens who may receive this ‘on the job training‘ come to expect their food to magically appear in a dish from you. Although they’ll retain the instinct to apply the predation methods of ’stalk, chase, kill and eat’, they may not refine them. Consequently, they may stalk and not catch, catch and not kill, and/or kill and not eat any prey that catches their attention. And since domestic cats develop a kitten/Queen identification with their human counterpart, you might find yourself the recipient of a special gift from them in the form of a field mouse, lizard or squirrel.

Handling kittens born into your home will socialize them with people and other pets in your house. Most Queens will let you pick up her kittens right away. Just don’t worry her by walking away with them. Any young children should not handle kittens without adult supervision to prevent injury to the kitten or the child. Stroking, petting, grooming and medicating kittens will acclimate them so that they’re tolerant of these things as adults. The presence of dogs, birds, gerbils, fish or other pets in a kittens youth experience will teach them to be un-fearful of other animals (and not think of them as food) when they become adults. Of course, as with all things of this world, the theory is not fool-proof, but, generally true. Careful observation and intervention in a kitten’s activities is always useful, with the emphasis on ‘careful’.

Punishment is not an option for training a kitten. Cats don’t understand punishment and only associate it with the punisher, not the ‘bad’ act. They’ll learn to fear you, and continue any ‘bad’ behavior. Training is best accomplished when the cat or kitten has an unpleasant experience associated with any particular behavior. For example, placing sticky tape over the end of a couch where the kitten is scratching will be an unpleasant experience and the instinct is easily transferred to a scratch post placed nearby. She’ll remember this the rest of her life. If you punish or yell at her, she’ll remember this too, and continue to scratch where she’s not supposed to. Then hide from you when you come into the room.

Simply put, whatever your cat learns when she is a kitten, you will have to live with for the rest of her life. And there’s no real expectation of changing those learned habits or behaviors. It is realistic to expect juvenile and adult cats can be trained. That’s your only realistic alternative to change unwanted behavior after kitten-hood is passed. Still, 99% of who and what she is as an adult can be traced directly to her kitten experiences. And if she’s a kitten in your home, a lot can be traced right back to you.

Clicker training is very popular with many dog trainers all over the world. You may want to consider using this dog training method if you plan on training your dog.

If you are planning on training your dog you might want to consider using clicker training. This training method has recently become very popular with many dog trainers all over the world. Clicker training simply uses a clicker when your dog successfully does a command. An actual clicker is just a little plastic box with a metal button that makes a distinctive click noise when you press the button. This training method is really easy and works with positive reinforcement.

Clicker training works by associating the sound of the click with a tasty treat or praise, whatever your dog loves. Some dogs will do anything for a treat, and some will do the same just for a pet on the head. Figure out what your dogs motivation is. Now all you really have to do is press the clicker when your dog successfully obeys a command. Before using the clicker with actual commands, your dog needs to first associate the clicking sound with a treat. He needs to know that when he hears that click, it means that he has a treat coming. So before using any commands(sit, stay, down, ect.), just make a click and immediately give him a treat. Just click and treat. Keep repeating that until he associates the sound of the click with a treat. You can then move on to commands with using the clicker the same way.

Here is an example to help you better understand the clicker training method. Let’s say that you want to teach your dog to sit on command using the clicker training method.

Say the command ’sit’ as you put a tasty treat over your dog’s nose and then slowly move it back. Your dog will see & smell the treat and then follow the movement of the treat with his nose. Doing this will cause him to naturally sit, and rest his little bottom on the floor. The moment your dog sits, you need to click, give him the treat, and praise him. After a while, he will associate the word "sit" with him actually sitting, and you won’t need to lure a treat over his nose. Be sure to click immediately after your dog does a command. Only click the clicker once and follow it with a treat.

Never use the clicker when you are not training! Your dog should never hear the sound of the clicker if he is not getting a treat.

Any type of training needs time and patience. Training sessions should always be positive and not too long. Never yell at your dog if he is not doing something right when training.

Even though the clicker training method works great for many dogs, it may not work for others. All dogs are different. If clicker training isn’t working for your dog, there are many other dog training methods that you could try. Also remember a lot of the times its not the dog that is failing with his training, it’s you!
